Scientific principles are
only as strong as the evidence behind them.

EVIDENCE

The three pillars that guide Alden Scientific were not conceived in a conference room. They emerged from more than three decades of scientific research spanning ALS TDI, PatientsLikeMe, and Oncimmune. Each represents a conclusion reached through experimentation, longitudinal observation, and learning from failure.

The publications below document that journey. Together, they show how our thinking evolved, and why we believe better measurement is the key to accelerating discovery and improving human health.

PILLAR 1

Measurement is the ultimate source of truth.

SUMMARY

Science advances only when measurements are trustworthy. Publications and hypotheses are valuable starting points, but measurement is the final authority.

Our earliest work challenged the reproducibility of published biomedical research and demonstrated that rigorous measurement standards produce more reliable science. In parallel, two decades of autoantibody profiling at Protagen and Oncimmune established what a measurement has to survive before it can be trusted: diagnostic-accuracy testing, multi-centre cohorts, and the scrutiny of pharma partners running registered trials. Both lines converge in longitudinal state biology, DigitalMe® and ultimately SerenityAI, showing that human biology is best understood through multiple complementary biological signals measured over time, not isolated biomarkers.

PILLAR 2

Better measurement dramatically shortens the time required to learn.

SUMMARY

Better measurements produce better decisions, and they do so sooner.

PatientsLikeMe demonstrated that carefully measured real-world evidence can answer important scientific questions years before conventional clinical trials. Oncimmune made the same argument inside drug development, reading response and toxicity from a baseline sample rather than waiting for the endpoint to arrive. That philosophy now extends across every layer of biology through Alden's harmonization frameworks, quality systems, and computational models, enabling data that is consistent, comparable, and scientifically defensible.

PILLAR 3

Care and discovery are the same continuous process.

SUMMARY

Patients are not subjects of research. They are partners in discovery.

PatientsLikeMe demonstrated that every patient interaction can generate knowledge. Protagen and Oncimmune showed the same thing in the laboratory: the samples that did not fit the expected pattern were the ones that identified new antigens, and the patients that conventional serology had missed. Every symptom, treatment, outcome, and unexpected observation contributes to a deeper understanding of disease, not only for one individual, but for everyone who follows. Today, that philosophy continues through Alden Scientific's cohorts, collaborative research programs, and AI-driven biological discovery platform.
